Daventry Country Park

The First TEHWS Report by John Beynon

23 people, aged 1 to 54, and Meg and Freddie the dogs set off for a beautiful autumn walk of 2.5 miles around Daventry Country Park, complete with its lake, many species of water fowl and some spectacular, colourful and uninterrupted views over typical Northamptonshire undulating hills. Only a few hundred metres from the town it is amazing the sense of being well out in the country that has been created. The morning was crisp but everyone revelled in the brilliant sunshine and the chat was lively and interesting.

The Country Park has a very wide selection of almost exclusively deciduous trees which are just beginning to take on their autumn colour and in a week or two the park will probably rival parts of New England with reds, browns and golds. There is also a varied selection of wetland plants.

Fishermen were casting what looked suspiciously like sardines into the water from the dam but we didn’t see anything caught.

A welcome cuppa was obtained from the Café next to the Ranger Station at the end of walk. The next stop for many was the Cricket Pavilion to welcome Lindsay, Rob and Bill back from the Kenilworth half marathon, all with very respectable times and PB’s. Well done.

Watch this space for the November Family event which will be announced later in October, will be a bit more adventurous, slightly longer and will hopefully not conflict with the X Country events.

Walking is a pastime which can be enjoyed by all.

Cheers

John
